Bruno Donzelli

Bruno Donzelli was born in Naples in 1941.

At the age of 21 he held his first solo exhibition at the Fiorino gallery in Florence in 1962. Since then he has participated in countless national and international exhibitions. Public spaces, including the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, hosted his extensive personal exhibitions.

In 1991 for the Municipality of Rome, he created the sets and costumes for Folli nights in Petersburg at Domejevskij’s White Nights at the Teatro dell’Orologio.

In the following years he organized numerous personal exhibitions in the main European cities: Paris, Milan, Geneva, Rome, Dusseldorf, Bologna, Florence, Neuchètel, Genoa, Venice, Nice, Turin, Parma, Strasbourg, Perugia, Verona, Cologne, Basel, Monaco, Barcelona, Alicante and others.

Numerous monographs have been published, including the historical one of 1986 published by La Scaletta di San Polo – Reggio Emilia – and those of 1997 by Mazzotta and 1998 by Georges Fall of Paris.

In February 2000 he was inaugurated in the presence of over three thousand people, a large anthological exhibition of his at the Royal Palace of Caserta. The exhibition, accompanied by a monographic catalog published by Charta, brings together over seventy works from the last thirty years, retracing the artistic itinerary of Bruno Donzelli with critical attention.

In 2002 a vast anthology was set up at the Palazzo dei Capitani in Ascoli Piceno with a large monograph.

In 2004 he was awarded the Internationality prize by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture at the Palazzo del Senato in Milan.

In addition to numerous national and international exhibitions and more than two hundred personal exhibitions, it is present over the years at the most important art fairs: Bologna Arte Fiera; Milan Miart; Basel; Colony; You love me; Barcelona etc.
Traveling exhibition in museum spaces in Spain in 2006/2007 in Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona with monographic catalog published by Triquiñuela de Artes.

In 2007 anthological exhibition at the Civic Museum of Castel Nuovo Maschio Angioino by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Naples

Bruno Donzelli’s pictorial language is ironic and irreverent, full of references to twentieth-century art history. Use the brightest colors and the most playful shapes to “read” the last hundred years of the past millennium. Its linguistic structure has developed over time, with constancy and consequential logic, starting from Cobra and Pop, passing through an ironic conceptuality, looking at the historical avant-gardes with its well-known mnemonic “Footprints”, restoring the formal motifs in a hyper-chromatic key of the twentieth century movements.

It is therefore a pictorial process that has found its most complete maturity and its international affirmation in the last decades.
